  rev. 1.00 1 september 08, 2015 rev. 1.00 pb september 08, 2015 HT7L5610 primary side regulation off line led driver with active pfc features ? primary-side current sensing and regulation without an opto-coupler ? integrated 650v mosfet ? wide ac input range - from 85v ac to 265v ac ? high power factor of >0.9 without additional circuitry ? accurate constant current (< 3%) ? low start-up current which reduces power dissipation ? full protection functions for enhanced safety ? gate driver output voltage clamp ? vcc over voltage protection - vcc ovp ? vcc under-voltage lockout with hysteresis - vcc uvlo ? output led string over current protection ? output led string short / open protection ? on-chip over temperature protection - otp ? 8-pin dip package applications ? general illumination ? e26/27, t5/t8 led lamp ? other led lighting applications general description the HT7L5610 is a single-stage, isolated, primary- side o ffline l ed l ighting c ontroller t hat h as t he benefits of high power factor and a fully integrated power mosfet . control of this power mosfet is implemented by regulating a constant led current accurately from the primary-side. this can signifi - cantly si mplify t he le d l ighting syst em desi gn by eliminating t he se condary-side f eedback c omponents and the usually required opto-coupler . the extremely low start-up current and quiescent current reduces the total power consumption to provide a high effciency solution for lighting applications. the device provides several protection functions, which include vcc under v oltage lockout (uvlo), over current protection (ocp), output led string open protection, output led string short protection, vcc over v oltage protection (ovp) and leading- edge blanking (leb) for current sensing. additional - ly and to ensure system reliability , the device includes a fully integrated thermal protection function. the high level of functional integra tion minimises the external component count giving major advantages in terms of cost and circuit board area. the device is supplied in an 8-pin dip package. application circuit s acin v out+ v out- HT7L5610 gnd comp drain vcc zcd source drain cs

rev. 1.00 5 september 08, 2015 HT7L5610 figure 9. temperature vs. high ac voltage functional description the HT7L5610 is a single-stage primary-side offine led controller designed for isolated led lighting applications. the device can achieve high pow er factor v alues a nd l ow t hd wi thout r esorting t o additional externa l circuits and can also generate high accuracy led drive currents with very few external components. start-up current a very low start-up current, i start , allows the selection of a lar ge value start-up resistor which reduces power dissipation. power factor correction high powe r fac tor va lues a re a chieved by c onstant on-time operation. t o implement constant on-time control, a 0.47f capacitor is placed between the comp pin and ground. constant current control the device accurately regulates the led current by sensing the primary-side information. the led current can be easily set using the following formula: s p cs fb out n n r v i 2 1 where n is the primary winding and n s is the secondary wi nding; v fb (=300m v) i s t he i nternal voltage re ference a nd r cs i s t he e xternal c urrent sensing resistor. vcc under voltage lockout C uvlo the device includes a uvlo featur e which has about 10v of hysteresis. the pwm controller turns on when vcc is higher than 18v and turns of f when vcc is lower than 7.5v . the hysteresis characteristics guarantee that the device can be powered by an input capacitor d uring st art-up. w hen t he o utput v oltage increases to a certain value after start-up, vcc will be charged by an output through an auxiliary winding. boundary conduction mode C bcm the power mosfet is turned on by inductor current zero-crossing detection. the current zero-crossing can be detected by a zcd voltage. when the inductor current i s a t t he z ero c rossing poi nt, t he vol tage on the zcd pin will drop rapidly . the HT7L5610 then de tects t he fa lling e dge a nd t urns on t he powe r mosfet. t he bounda ry c onduction m ode provi des low t urn-on swi tching l osses a nd hi gh c onversion effciency. leb on cs C leading-edge blanking each time the internal power mosfet is switched on, a t urn-on spi ke wi ll i nevitably occ ur at t he se nse resistor. t o avoid faulty triggering, a 400ns leading- edge blank time is generated. during this blanking period, t he c urrent-limit c omparator i s di sabled a nd can therefore not switch off the gate driver. ovp on vcc C over voltage protection in order to prevent pwm controller damage, the device includes an ovp function on vcc. should the vc c v oltage b e h igher t han t he ovp t hreshold voltage of 24v , the pwm controller will stop operating immediately . when the vcc voltage decreases be low t he uvl o of f l evel, t he c ontroller will reset.
rev. 1.00 6 september 08, 2015 HT7L5610 led open protection C zcd ovp the zcd pin voltage is set by a resistor divider , r top (top resistor) and r bot (bottom resistor), and an a uxiliary wi nding d ue t o t he c oupling p olarity between the auxiliary winding and the secondary winding of t he t ransformer. onc e t he z cd vol tage exceeds 3.2v afte r a blanking time about 1s to allow the l eakage i nductance ringing t o be ful ly dam ped, the zcd ovp is triggered and the ic stops switching. it can be reset by re-starting the voltage on vcc pin. the ovp voltage can be adjusted using the following equation: d a s bot top ovpout v n n r r v ++= )1(2.3 _ where n s is secondary winding, n a is the auxiliary winding, v d i s t he f orward b ias v oltage o f t he secondary diode. ocp C over current protection the device includes an over current protection function on the cs pin. an internal circuit detects the current level and when the current is lar ger than the over c urrent p rotection t hreshold l evel, v ocp /r cs , t he gate output will remain at a low level. led short protection C scp the output voltage drops when a number of leds in a st ring a re sho rted re sulting i n a vol tage drop a t vcc. onc e t he vcc dr ops be low 7. 5v, t he de vice will stop operating. under such situations, the start-up operation will rechar ge the vcc pin through the start- up resistor and the device will enter the uvlo hiccup mode. thermal protection a t hermal p rotection f eature i s i ncluded t o p rotect the device from excessive heat damage. when the junction temperature exceeds a threshold of 150c , the thermal protection function will turn of f the drain source terminal terminal immediately . when the vcc decreases be low t he uvl o of f l evel, t he c ontroller will reset.
